Casa de Fieras

Casa de Fieras
Casa de Fieras is an exhibition by Dominican-Lebanese artist Amy Hussein.
Curator Gala Berger affirms that this is Amy Hussein's
[T]hird solo exhibition which brings together works carried out in the last three years around personal mythologies, new modeling and 3D printing techniques and a series of zoomorphic portraits on different supports. Approaching the exchange between different cultural productions, Hussein holds this exhibition in the Hispano-Moorish premises of the Santo Domingo Porcelain Museum -the first museum in the Caribbean to assemble its own collection of these characteristics- where pre-Columbian objects intersect with industrially manufactured porcelain.
The result of the artist's intervention in the Museum works as an invocation to the surreal energy in a Caribbean key, associated with liberation movements and imagination of other possibilities of existence. Here the objects speak of other stories, reverse the western narrative senses and hack into the established anthropology and the colonial patterns of valuation between cultures. Evoking in this journey memories of the Lebanese diaspora, migration, exile and the social construction of the tourist imaginary of paradise with the claws, fangs and tentacles of animals and wild creatures. These fabled inhabitants and monsters present in all the production gathered in Casa de fieras, do not seem to come from the past but from the near future, where faces of contemporary people merge with bodies-myths to survive in the dystopian landscapes of promotional catalogs of a area of the planet constantly threatened by real estate speculation.
Casa de Fieras was part of the MECA Art Fair satellite route and was open from March 15 to 31, 2023 at the Porcelain Museum, (José Reyes street no.6) from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am - 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays
from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
